How we work

How we work

The British Deer Society is a registered charity and is based in Fordingbridge in Hampshire. The Patron of the Society is HRH The Prince of Wales. Society President is Sir Michael Strang Steel.

The Board of Trustee/Directors has overall responsibility for the Society and is made up of members with wide-ranging experience and deer interests who bring a variety of skills to the Board. The Board meets four times each year to set and direct policy. Between meetings the Board works by email, delegating some work to specific groups such as finance, research, education, and training.

The Management Team is led by the General Manager and regular meetings are held throughout the year to plan and deliver Society work.  Michael Thick, Society Chairman; Philip Mackenzie, Treasurer and Financial Director; Sarah Stride, General Manager and Company Secretary; Glyn Ingram, UK Training Manager; John Bruce, Area Director for Scotland; and Phillip Rosslee, Finance Officer make up the team.  Individual Trustee/Directors attend on occasion as ex officio members and contribute specialist input as necessary.
