The British Deer Society is thrilled to announce an exciting new partnership with Nottingham Venues, a collection of independent venues on the University of Nottingham campus, renowned for their commitment to sustainability and high-quality hospitality. This groundbreaking collaboration represents a UK-first initiative to promote wild venison as a sustainable, ethical, and locally sourced food, while supporting vital conservation efforts.

Promoting Ethical Deer Management Through Partnership

This partnership aligns perfectly with The British Deer Society’s mission to promote ethical and sustainable deer management. At the heart of this collaboration is Bramleys Restaurant, located within Nottingham Venues’ 4* Orchard Hotel, which has committed to donating £1 to BDS for every venison dish sold.

All venison served at Bramleys is sourced from within a 30-mile radius, ensuring low food miles and a direct connection to local land and wildlife management. This initiative offers diners a unique opportunity to enjoy high-quality, locally sourced food while contributing to biodiversity conservation and sustainability efforts.

A Shared Vision for Sustainability

David Cartwright, Head Chef at Bramleys Restaurant, is leading the charge in creating a venison-forward menu that celebrates the versatility and quality of this sustainable meat. Cartwright says:

“Venison is a high-quality and healthy option, and my team and I have created dishes that really showcase the meat. We are committed to sustainability, seasonality, and using the best locally sourced produce.”

The CEO of Nottingham Venues, Tom Waldron-Lynch, also highlighted the importance of raising awareness around venison and the UK’s growing deer population:

“Venison is a fantastic, sustainable meat that has next to no carbon footprint. This partnership not only celebrates venison but also educates people about its role in biodiversity conservation, rewilding, and farmland protection.”

Supporting Deer, Biodiversity, and Beyond

Funds raised through this partnership will directly support The British Deer Society’s ongoing efforts in education, training, and conservation. David McAuley, CEO of The British Deer Society, shared his enthusiasm for the partnership:

“Having companies within the hospitality industry pledge to support our work is instrumental in raising awareness of venison as a sustainable and healthy food source. Nottingham Venues’ commitment sets a powerful example, and we’re thrilled to have them as a partner.”

Ethical Food Choices for a Sustainable Future

This partnership exemplifies how businesses and individuals can make a tangible difference through ethical food choices. By choosing wild venison, diners at Bramleys are not only enjoying a delicious and versatile dish but also contributing to sustainable food systems, ethical deer management, and environmental protection.
