Enclosed and Captive Deer Survey

Enclosed and Captive Deer Survey 2017

Do you have a deer, farm, park, zoo or other collection near you? Or do you know of anywhere which keeps captive deer of any kind?  If so, the British Deer Society needs your help!

Although the Society has traditionally focussed its attention upon wild deer, one of the foundation elements of the Society’s charitable status is the wider welfare of deer. To assist with this the BDS is creating a register of all enclosed or otherwise captive deer of any species in the UK. It will be

the first comprehensive list of its kind, and will be an invaluable asset.  Uses, among many other benefits, will include advising the public of where they can view deer, recording endangered species, or allowing us to react quickly to outbreaks of diseases affecting deer.

We would be grateful if you could help us gather this information by completing a reporting form - pdf Download a copy here (86 KB) pdf . (86 KB) The form contains notes for completion and where to send it. The whole process is very quick and simple; please include as much information as you can but don’t be concerned if you are not able to fill in all of the boxes. All information received will be held centrally by the BDS and only details of establishments with public access will be made widely available. Progress will be reported in the Society’s journal  Deer.

The success of the Survey will rely heavily on receiving reports from our members, so please help us to enhance the BDS position as the foremost authority on all deer, wild or captive, within the UK.
