The British Deer Society has taken the decision to discontinue offering its BDS RD Field Sports Public Liability insurance package. The scheme has been running for 25 years via the Society’s trading company, BDS (Sales & Services) Ltd and is purchased by some of BDS’s stalker members. However ever-increasing costs within the insurance market make it no longer viable or practical for the Society to offer this product.
From March 2021 onwards, as each BDS member’s individual BDS (S&S) Ltd RD Field Sports Liability Insurance policy comes up for renewal, those concerned will need to make alternative arrangements for their liability insurance. We are aware that several countryside organisations offer this type of insurance and are confident that members will be able to find alternative policies.
BDS CEO David McAuley commented:
“This is not a decision we have taken lightly. We appreciate the massive loyalty of our members and feel sure that they will want us to continue channelling all our energies towards ensuring our wild deer have a healthy and sustainable future. This we can do by widening outreach, promoting greater understanding of deer, their biology and humane management with appropriate training, education and also by encouraging research. We feel very strongly that within today’s challenging financial climate, we must focus all our BDS efforts on this strategy.”
BDS members will remain covered by their membership for all official activities and events which are organised and run by the BDS.
