MEMBERS COMPETITION - KEY DETAILS

The BDS Photographer of the Year competition closes on 31st March each year. Entries should be sent to photography@bds.org.uk 

There are certificates and cash prizes for the first, second and third placed entries.

Photographers must agree to follow the BDS code of conduct.

The photo must be yours and you should hold the sole copyright of any submitted image.

You must confirm that you are happy for The British Deer Society to use the image.

COMPETITION CRITERIA

  • Feature wild or park deer, UK native species, in any situation
  • All images entered must be of live deer – welfare is paramount and there must be no disturbance to deer during the taking of any photographs
  • Pictures must be obtained legally with the landowner’s permission where necessary

The winning photographs will be exhibited as appropriate, as well as being published on the website and in DEER magazine.

COMPETITION RULES

The BDS Photographer of the Year competition closes on 31st March each year. 

Entries must be from fully paid up BDS members and each member can submit up to three images.

The judges will have the final decision, and no correspondence will be entered into by the judges or organisers regarding either the judging or organisation of the competition.

The competition is organised by the British Deer Society and is open to any member except for the organising members and any sponsors.

Image  Criteria

The submitted images must feature wild or park deer, of UK native species, and in any situation

Photographers must follow the BDS code of conduct. Welfare is paramount and deer must not be disturbed during the taking of photographs.

Pictures must be obtained legally with the landowner’s permission where necessary

Images can be taken using either SLR or any type of digital camera.

Image Rights and Use

The winning photographs will be exhibited as appropriate, as well as being published on the BDS website and in DEER magazine. 

Entrants must hold the sole copyright of each picture they enter.       

By entering the competition, you will be granting permission for The British Deer Society to use any submitted images to support its work.

Pictures that have previously won an open photographic competition (except for local camera club competitions), are not eligible. Any photograph discovered to have been so entered will be disqualified.

 

Submitting an Entry

Entries should be submitted digitally via email. Please ensure the image name includes:

  • Image title
  • Photographer’s name
  • Membership number

Contest photographs must be saved in the jpg/jpeg format, 300 dpi or higher and the size of the files should not be less than 2 Mb and more than 4 Mb per image.Large files can be zipped (compressed) for easier transfer.

Images must be emailed to photography@bds.org.uk

The subject of the email should be Photographer of the Year

The body of the email must include:

  • Member’s name
  • Address
  • Telephone number
  • Membership number
  • Type of camera used

You must also confirm that you are happy for The British Deer Society to use any images submitted to the competition and grant permission to the society to use it for subsequent awareness, educational and marketing purposes.

Failure to include any of these details may result in images being excluded from the competition.
