The British Deer Society training department has developed the online Wild Boar course, designed to assist society members and others expand their knowledge of wild boar in the UK and Europe using best practice and hunting methods. The training will prepare the candidate to undertake the DMQ wild boar qualification assessments at a chosen venue.
The online course is presented in small bite size presentations, along with short questions to test your level of knowledge, you will also be able to contact a tutor via email (normally within 1 working day), who will be able to help with any further questions you may have.
You will gain an understanding of Wild Boar ecology, signs, recognition, disease, law, firearms, law, shot placement, shooting methods, safety, follow up and game meat hygiene.
The assessment day will consist of the Deer Management Qualifications Wild Boar Certificate assessment, you will be required to sit three tests, written 50 multiple choice questions, visual 10 slides and a shooting test.
After booking the course you will be sent a link and instructions on how to access the online learning site, normally on the next working day.
Pre course requirements
DSC1 green or blue certificate holder or DSC1 brown certificate along with the LANTRA or NGO Wild Game Meat Hygiene certificate which includes the large game element.
If bringing your own rifle, it must be a .270/.30 or 7mm calibre or above. You should be able to consistently hit a 4″ target at 100 metres and shoot from various field shooting positions for the shooting element of the examinations.
Any candidate who wishes to borrow a BDS Club rifle may legally borrow one free of charge under the BDS Gun Club rules. To be eligible to borrow a rifle you must be a member of the BDS and will be asked to complete a Section 21 Declaration Form, unless a valid FAC is held.
